Thank you for Inspirational Holy Week Services

A heartfelt "Thank You" is extended to all those, who shared their presence, prayers and gifts from Ash Wednesday through Holy Week's worship services. We acknowledge a special appreciation to Pastor Lindsy for her spiritual leadership, theological direction and inspirational sermons throughout the forty days of lent and during Holy Week. Thank you for special words of wisdom from Janet Stevenson and Betty Harmon.

Words alone cannot express the indebtedness we feel to Peter Mercer for his artistic, theatrical and musical creativity he shares regularly in worship services, and for the heightened sense of meaning and drama he added to worship services from Palm Sunday through Easter this year. His dramatic backdrops for Maundy Thursday and Good Friday endowed worship with a sense of place, a rich setting for the other players to speak, sing, act and dance. Bouquets of roses are showered upon Liz Hazen and Janet Stevenson for their inspiring solos, upon the song team for musical voices that lift our hearts and upon the liturgical dancers and their dance teacher, Rosalie Branigan, for meaningful performances during worship on Good Friday and Easter.

Thank you to those who decorated the church, contributed lilies to decorate the Easter cross and brought cut flowers for the outdoor cross. Early birds who attended sunrise worship on Easter appreciated the hearty breakfast with hot cross buns served by the mens group. Worshipers relished the tasty treats prepared and served by dedicated hands each Sunday for fellowship after worship. No contribution went unnoticed. Each contribution enriched our lives. The palms and banners on Palm Sunday, the wash basins and towels on Maundy Thursday, the nails on Good Friday, the additional smiles of joy on Easter Sunday. Thank you to all members of our church family for being part of our Easter joy.

Christmas Eve Services Dec 24th at 7PM and 11PM

Pastor Lindsy Ireland will lead the congregation in two candlelight services on Christmas Eve in the church sanctuary decorated for Christmas by Peter Mercer. Service will begin at 7PM and 11PM. Special music and reenactments of the first Christmas will be performed by members of the church family.

The church is beautifully decorated for the Advent Season. The Christmas Tree welcomes you at the entrance to the church. Service begins at 10AM. First we have the children's presentation with Daniel and Connor Patterson and Fox Elder--with a supporting cast of players. You do not want to miss this!

Secondly, we have the liturgical dance team doing our call to worship. I cannot think of a better way to prepare our hearts for Christmas.

And of course, Pastor Lindsy Ireland will be preaching. Music by Peter Mercer, pianist and organist. Singing of Advent songs by Song Team, seasonal music by Church Choir with participation by congregation.

Bless The Future is our inspiration and motivation for building a new sanctuary for our Community United Methodist Church in Port Hadlock. Our architect who art in heaven has laid out the blue print. Disciple crews have penciled through designs. Followers have met to tick off the time lines and set the schedule. The site is prepared and seeds are ready for planting.

The need is established. The mission is set. The faithful stand ready.

You are a blessing. Go out and bless the world.

A Brief History of Community United Methodist Church of Port Hadlock ("CUMC")

What is now Community United Methodist Church ("CUMC") started as two churches: the Chimacum Methodist Episcopal Church (1892- 19 members) and the Hadlock Methodist Episcopal Church ( 1893 - 25 members).

In 1955 the two churches reincorporated as Community Methodist Church of Chimacum and Port Hadlock. In 1956, the Womens Society of Christian Concern of both churches combined, and in 1958 the current 15 acre site halfway between Chimacum and Port Hadlock was purchased.

The churches were pastored by mobile ministers (circuit riders) whose district included Blyn, Irondale, Chimacum, and Hadlock. In spring of 1959, what is now the education wing was started; it was completed and consecrated in 1962.

The first “sanctuary” was in our current Room H. In late 1962, the two congregations combined and in 1963 the first pastor was appointed. The current sanctuary was dedicated in 1980, and a centennial was observed on July 26, 1992.

An exciting new chapter in CUMC’s history began in January 2005 with the groundbreaking for the “South Seven Village,” a low cost housing development for seniors (phase 1) and the disabled and families (subsequent phases). An open house for the first 15 units was held on March 5, 2006 and move in of the first qualified seniors is expected in early April 2006.

Thanksgiving Gathering of Churches in the Port Hadlock and Port Ludlow area. Local churches gather together in an ecumenical service once a year, this year on the day before Thanksgiving, bringing together the pastors and congregations for a service of songs, preaching, worship and fellowship.
